The
Cherryville Fire Department was awarded a Fire Act Grant award during
2001. This allowed our department to
purchase a fire safety house along with audio visual equipment to teach
citizens about fire safety. The Cherryville Fire Department previously
did not have a fire prevention program.
After
completion of the grant award and ordering our equipment, a fire prevention
program was quickly developed. The excitement grew, as did the overwhelming
response to use our equipment in our city and surrounding counties.
Due
to the Fire Act Grant of 2001 we have presently taught fire safety to
3116 children and adults throughout the City of Cherryville, Gaston
County, Lincoln County and Cleveland County by using the fire safety
house. This allowed a realistic approach and better understanding to
the serious nature of fire safety.
The audio
visual equipment allowed a wide range of options for teaching remote
fire safety to large groups when the fire safety house was not available
or appropriate for the audience. We have presently logged 635 adults
that have attended our mobile fire safety seminars offered by our Fire
Chief, Jeff Cash.
The Cherryville
Fire Department recently won a 2002 Fire Act Grant for $92,000.00 to
purchase a brush truck. We plan to use this piece of apparatus to pull
our fire safety house and run medical calls between 8:00am - 5:00pm.
We will post pictures as soon as possible.
