Pastor Herman M. Simpson came from Shelby, NC in the year of 1977 to start what is now known as the "Gospel Way Baptist Church". It had it's first services with just 17 people present on April 17, 1977 as a mission in the old "Wayside Inn" building located on HWY. 150-E of Cherryville, NC.

0n July 9, 1977 - Gospel Way Baptist Church was organized and contin-ued to hold services at this location with 9 charter members until December 10, 1978 - when the church re-located to the corner of E. Academy & Pink Street.

Gospel Way Baptist Church remained at the corner of E. Academy & Pink Street from December 10, 1978 until June 2, 1996 - A period of 18 years. The church then re-located to it's present location on HWY. 274-S - 3904 Tryon Courthouse Road.

This year - 1997 - Gospel Way celebrated it's 20th anniversary as an established, thriving, & growing church - with a membership of 119 church members.

Gospel Way Baptist Church is very active in the community. It offers various ministries through the church - such as "Rest home ministry", "A radio broadcast ministry", "A monthly Youth Meeting" - geared at our youth & teenagers, The support of 11 missionaries - both home and abroad, weekly door to door visitation - with it's main focus here in the surrounding communities of Cherryville. The church offers a weekly prayer service on each Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church for anyone who wishes to come and pray together.

The church has it's regular Sunday services each sunday morning & Sunday night. Morning services began with bible school at 10:00a.m. followed by regular sunday morning worship at 11:00 a.m. Sunday night services began at 7:00 p.m. each Sunday. The church offers a fifth sunday night singing in the months that have 5 calendar sun-days. We cordially invite the public to all our services.

Herman M. Simpson has faithfully been the pastor of gospel way since it's beginning - 20 years ago. He faithfully serves in all the church has to offer - where at one time, when just getting started he has preached to a congregation where there would be maybe 6 or 7 present. He remained faithful over the few and has seen the church grow to the 119 membership it has today. The Lord continues to bless day by day as the pastor continues to be gratefully aware of Matt. 25:23.
